At the Big Piney Gun Club, 7 miles west of Big Piney, off 189 west on Budd Ave, north on Nocholas which turns into Middle Piney and follow until the gun club on the north side of the road. 10:00 AM, $20.00 entry fee. Any military rifle or carbine in issued battle-ready condition and chambered for its original military cartridge of 6.5 or bigger. NO ALTERATIONS except a slip on recoil pad.Any contestant can use more than one rifle. Range will be open from 7-9AM for sight-in. Bring plenty of ammo, spotting scopes, ear and eye protection. 26: Meeting of the Upper Green River Basin Local Sage Grouse Working Group At the Bureau of Land Management Office at 1625 West Pine Street in Pinedale, from 10:00AM to 5:00 PM. One topic of discussion will be consideration of minor modifications to outer boundaries of the current sage grouse “Core Areas”. Governor Freudenthal's Statewide Sage Grouse Implementation Team has been assigned to evaluate and revise the current Core Area boundaries as appropriate using specific biological and land use (development) sideboards. The Implementation Team has requested local input via the Local Sage Grouse Working Groups. The core area discussion is scheduled to take place from 10:00AM to noon. Also of note will be a discussion on the results of recently completed research regarding ravens in the Pinedale area. That discussion will take place from 2:00-3:30PM. Meeting topics include Lander Trail viewshed monitoring, the Lander Trail alternate ferry route, the use of soil data to develop archeological predictive site modeling, developing process statistics for site discoveries, and updating the Cultural Resource Summary report. 5: National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy The Pregnancy Resource Center is encouraging local teens to participate in the ninth annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy on May 5, 2010. The purpose of the National Day is to focus the attention of teens on the importance of avoiding too-early pregnancy and parenthood through an interactive online quiz. On the National Day, teens nationwide are asked to go http://www.StayTeen.org"www.StayTeen.org and take a short, scenario-based quiz (available in English and Spanish). The online quiz challenges young people to think carefully about what they would do in a number of risky sexual situations. 20: Community Reception kick-off for local photographer Dave Bell’s Second Annual Photography Show at Rendezvous Pointe in Pinedale
The photography show will run for 4 weeks. The reception will be from 5-7PM. Light hors'dvoeurs will be served, prepared from the kitchen of Sue Eversull. This year’s show will highlight work/images taken during 2009. Around 60 images will be presented--part framed and matted and the balance matted, suitable for framing. In addition the show will feature 12 canvas wrap images of various sizes. The week of hands-on, outdoor, experiential learning is designed to foster an appreciation for and love of nature using the public and private lands "classroom" of Sublette County - including lands on which the GRVLT holds conservation easements. 1: Author deadline for Museum of the Mountain Man's "Call for Papers" for 2011 Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal (5th edition) The Journal is an academic, peer-reviewed publication on ideas and topics related to the early 1800 fur trade (1824-1840). The Journal encourages research and debate in an academic arena, exploring new perspectives and innovative topics that challenge previously accepted theories in a defendable manner. Up to ten authors are selected for inclusion in the upcoming issue. Each selected writer receives a $1,000 cash award. The volume will be released to the public at the 2011 Green River Rendezvous the second weekend in July at the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale. Aniel Daniel Chili Cook-off (Daniel) - Last Sunday in March or first Sunday in April. Held at the historic Daniel Schoolhouse. Social gathering and great chili competition.
Bondurant BBQ
(Bondurant) - Always held the last Sunday in June following church services at St. Hubert the Hunter church in Bondurant. Fundraiser for the community.
Green River Rendezvous (Pinedale) - Always held the 2nd full weekend in July. Includes a parade, living history presentations, Rendezvous Pageant, Rendezvous Prairie Mass and much more
Chuckwagon Days (Big Piney) - Always held the 4th of July weekend in Big Piney and at the rodeo grounds at the Sublette County Fairgrounds north of Marbleton. Includes parade, community picnic/BBQ, Little Buckaroo Rodeo, adult rodeo and fireworks.
Pinedale 4th of July Town Picnic & Fireworks - July 4th. Community picnic with great food and chance to get with your neighbors and the Town to socialize.
Old Timers' Picnic (Daniel) - Held the 2nd or 3rd Sunday in July. Held at the historic Daniel Schoolhouse. Great food and socialization.
Sailing Regatta on Fremont Lake - Always the 2nd full weekend in August. Based from Lakeside Lodge and hosted by the Pinedale Boat Club.
Museum of the Mountain Man Wreath & Chocolate Auction - Always held the first Friday in December in Pinedale.
Daniel Community Christmas Party - The Sunday before Christmas in December.
